I bought these shoes for orienteering (i.e. multi-terrain use). I would say I ran around 150km in them before the mesh on the inside of the big toe on each foot developed a hole.

That said, they gripped well and didn't give me any blisters unlike the Inov-8's I bought for treble the price.

I will be buying a replacement pair!

Do a lot of hill walking and running, find these shoes extremely suitable, very confident coming down hill.used to wear Inov 8, but wear these now and up to now equally as good.
Did return a pair of more mile shoes after extreme use during the really wet period and sole parted from upper similar to Inov after longer use, did not get a response.?? (Posted on 18/02/2016)

Buy a shoe half a size bigger than your usual size. A quality light weight trail shoe which is comfortable, well made which grips soft ground like a tractor. This is my third pair they are an excellent buy equal if not better than better known trail shoes. Grab a pair you won't be sorry! (Posted on 10/02/2016)

Finally I've purchased some trail shoes thanks to the current soggy weather and they are fantastic. I regularly run a parkrun which is basically a cross country and these shoes made me feel considerably more stable on some really muddy parts of the course making the run more enjoyable and incidentally smashing my course PB! :) (Posted on 20/01/2016)

I bought mine a few months ago and posted a very positive review. Now, several months down the line I am still raving about these shoes. Extremely comfortable and grip like a Landrover. The price makes them worth trying, the quality makes them worth keeping and buying again! Not for everyone, but definitely for most people! (Posted on 21/10/2015)

Tough Mudder life savers! Review by Kev

Bought these upon reccomendation to wear during Tough Mudder, which was my first endurance event & long distance run of any kind and I can't emphasise enough how invaluable they were!
I wore them only once or twice before the event and didn't need to break them in- they were comfortable from the word Go. They offer a tremendous amount of grip that had me sprinting past runners that looked far fitter than me, except they had ordinary trainers on!
During Tough Mudder you're in and out of water all the time and the Cheviot's dry off very quickly and don't hold water, I'm sure this helped me finish the course with no blisters or sores at all.
I'd say these were the difference between me finishing the course or having to bow out. So glad I bought them! (Posted on 13/09/2015)

I needed an agility shoe to replace my Karimors due to an Achilles injury. These are so far proving excellent with a heel riser fitted. Unlike the Cheviot 2's they are pretty much accurate wrt the stated size.

Excellent grip, not too heavy, cool on my feet and seem to dry quickly.

Highly recommended. (Posted on 10/09/2015)

Kept me on my feet for 9 Cornish miles of Mud, fields and rivers. Could not fault them.

Usually wear Salomon, Montrail, Hokas, but needed something with bite that wouldn't break the bank for a winter race and these were just that! (Posted on 27/04/2015)

I am an occasional trail runner and needed some new shoes for the wild night run on Dartmoor. They had a quick 3 mile run in before the night and seemed good enough. They stood up to (in order) hail, rain snow and thick mud as well as staying on after going waist deep in a bog. These shoes gave a good showing on that first 10 miler and have continued to do so. I dare say if I was out every day I would want something more but for occasional use (once a week) these are perfect. They are now getting dragged across Dartmoor regularly and I haven't thought about upgrading once. There is brilliant grip and excellent toe protection whilst the upper is strong enough to keep the thorns out. For the price you won't get a better shoe. I reccomend these to all who ask! First consideration if you are new to trail running Review by Andrew
Price

Quality
More Mile Cheviot running shoes are a cross between a road shoe and a classical trail shoe. Tread is superb for off-road use, if a little difficult for on-road stretches and, whilst the soles don't have quite the close contact feel of some rivals, they are more comfortable and supportive, which provides safer travel on uneven and stoney ground, especially if you have tender feet! They also provide good support if you have had past injuries or weaknesses at ankle joints or associated ligaments. They are astonishingly inexpensive, which always helps, but aside from this, they are a good shoe if you want the feel of a road shoe, but with the grip of a classical off-roader. Overall, a five star purchase. (Posted on 19/03/2015)

Incredible shoes for the money! Review by Ross

I use these shoes for hiking. They are incredibly cheap, well made and durable. The shoes only weak points are also their strengths:
The soles are very hard wearing, meaning they last ages. The deep lugs are great on loose / muddy terrain but they can be slippy on wet wood and rock.
The shoe has a pretty extensive rubber rand and the body is well reinforced and made from quite heavy mesh. This makes them very durable and offers a bit of protection from knocks but reduces the drainage and breathability of the shoe.

Almost impossible not to award 5 stars all round at this price point. (Posted on 13/03/2015)

Left it until the third time wearing the shoes for a review. First time I wore I got a small pain after 6 miles where they were pinching me. However after changing the lace threading a bit they seemed ok on the second run. Then today ran an off road marathon on very muddy tracks - shoes were excellent good grip good support and very comfortable on the fields and mud although a bit heavy on the bits of road I had to run over. Bearing in mind the price I think these were an excellent buy and would highly recommend. (Posted on 19/02/2015)

I bought these as a cheap pair of second training shoes but they are now my go to trainer for trail running. The grip on them is fantastic and they give you a lot of confidence running in the mud and ice.
I have put these through a lot of abuse and put them in the washing machine several times and they are lasting well, much better than my previous Karrimor pair.
Not sure they will be well suited when the ground gets harder but for the winter months these are fantastic for the money and I shall be buying another pair when these finally die. (Posted on 24/01/2015)

I bought these as an experiment - they seemed too good to be true! In fact, they're absolutely fantastic: I can afford seven pairs of these for every pair of Salomons! No criticisms at all - I'd recommend these to anyone who needs trail shoes.

I received my Cheviot one week ago, and I've used them on 3 runs of 8km, with good portions of mud.

- The pros : grip, stability, laces, footstrike (easy to midfoot strike with these shoes).

- The cons : too heavy for me (almost for a competition), toebox too narrow : got two hotspots : one on the outside of the left big toe, and a painfull one above the right small toe, whereas the size of the shoes is the good one. (Posted on 16/01/2015)

I have had these for a couple of years and probably only need to use them half a dozen times each year when conditions get really mucky. E.g.Cross-country today 11th Jan 2015.
They more than do the job and I don't feel guilty about having an expensive pair in the cupboard for 360 days a year! (Posted on 11/01/2015)

This is my second pair. I got nearly two years out of first pair. I'm not high mileage but what I do is all off road. I'm near the bush, south of Sydney, its mostly dry rock, sand and boulders. Real undulating with some steep rocky ascents/descents so they take a beating. These shoes are great and inspire plenty of confidence. Point down hill, switch off the brain and the shoes do the rest. At this price and build and great service, shipping to Oz in under 2 weeks, you can't go wrong. Good in the wet too but stick to the trails, not a shoe for pounding the tarmac. (Posted on 16/12/2014)

Seconds pair of trail shoes - first was a pair of Adidas Kanadias.

Pros: Very good value, good level of splashproofness, but also don't hold the water in if you do submerge them. Amazingly grippy - I've run across stuff that the Kanadias couldn't handle (and even cross country spikes would have struggled with) and the Cheviots are rock solid. Really secure - it's opened up some trails that were off limits to me before in the Winter.

Cons: Big tough grips mean that on tarmac/concrete they don't feel very "springy".
Large toe box (could be a pro for you, but I felt like my toes were a little loose in there)
Relatively short tongue on the shoes, so you have to be a little careful tying them.

Summary: If you're going to be running entirely off road, or you're going to have majority off road and it's likely to be very muddy, then these are fantastic shoes.
